There’s a reason that our friend refers to Dawn, whose website is Blogging Mom of 4, as “Blogging Mom of 5.”
After nearly 20 years of marriage, I’ve learned to not be overly vocal (read whiny) about scratchy throats, stuffy noses, and other minor ailments. Chances are good that not only is Dawn suffering the same symptoms silently, she’s running circles around me while I’m curled up on the couch in a fetal position. But then, that’s pretty normal for her; spend any amount of time with us and it will quickly become obvious that Dawn is the glue that holds our family together, keeps us all on schedule, tends to our children’s health and happiness, and makes sure I leave the house often enough to avoid becoming Gollum from The Lord of the Rings.
So Happy Mother’s Day to those wonderful moms who keep civilization churning on, through thick and thin. You all deserve hazard pay and a week-long spa treatment. But since we both know that’s probably not going to happen, I wish you cheerful children and helpful husbands – for at least one day a year.
