Sock Funeral [ Wisconsin Dells ] – Comic Strip #8

Sock Funeral - Wisconsin Dells

Our family has a rather checkered past with Wisconsin Dells. Sometimes our trips are awesome, like this one:

And sometimes the trips are not so awesome, like the one I documented in this Review Dad blog post.

Today’s comic strip is from an interaction that took place during one of our trips. As you can see, our children have a flair for the dramatic.

That’s My Boy [ Hearthstone ] – Comic Strip #7

thats my boy - Hearthstone

Every time a new Hearthstone expansion is released, there are always two or three decks that rise to the top of the competitive heap. What follows is several months where roughly 90% of the decks you play against will be some slight variation of these competitive juggernauts. The current flavor du jour is pirates.

I’ve seen shaman pirate decks, rogue pirate decks, hunter pirate decks, paladin pirate decks, and even druid pirate decks. But the deck that I’ve seen more than any other is the warrior pirate deck, thanks to the abundance of warrior weapon cards that synergize so well with pirate cards. Add to that the fact that pirate decks are typically very fast and easy to play, and you’ve got yourself a meta monster.

Man, oh man, am I ever sick of pirates. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t begrudge the success of anyone playing a top-tier deck. What irritates me is the number of pirate warrior players who go out of their way to BM you when they’ve got you on the ropes.

For those of you who don’t know that “BM” is, it stands for Bad Manners (I know at least a couple of you instantly thought “bowel movement”). BMing is the act of conducting oneself rudely in order to ruin your opponent’s enjoyment of the game. Examples of BMing include taunting, trash-talking, and purposely making your turns take longer than necessary just to be a jerk. BMing is a scummy thing to do under normal circumstances, but to do it with a deck that takes almost no skill to successfully play? Well… I’m trying to keep this post PG-rated, so I’ll let you make your own analogies. Let’s just say that I’m really, REALLY looking forward to the release of the Journey to Un’Goro expansion breathing some much-needed life into the meta.

Here’s a better look at the Hearthstone card I created for today’s comic. I would trade my oldest child to be able to play an actual copy of this card.
